Fitness Challenge Weekly Log

Welcome to my week 11 & 12 results!

I know what you are thinking!  I skipped last week’s update because I quit right?  Ballooned back to my starting weight of 217 lbs?  Wrong.

Me and evilenger actually went to Vegas to watch UFC and goof around, so we didn’t get back till Tuesday late night.  In a nutshell:

  • Smoking chicks everywhere
  • Good fights and dune buggy racing
  • Crappy gambling.  Lost $100 at three card poker in about 6 minutes
  • Worst flight back ever.  7 hrs worth of delays.  Thanks a lot United Airlines and take your $75 e-certificate gift and shove it!

Weight & Body

I’ve barely worked out the last 2 weeks and I ate 3 buffets and a pigged out at Carnegie Deli at The Mirage.  Take a guess what my weight is?  I left for Vegas around 209-210 lbs.  When I got back I weighed myself.  Evilenger was right there and saw it.  Around 211-212 lbs.  Not bad.  I guess all that walking in 33 celcius heat helped.

So what am I today when I hopped on the scale?  207 lbs baby!  I found my secret to weight loss.  Read on…

Food

I’d eaten some BBQ before and after Vegas, but who wants to see more burnt burgers cooked well done?  Speaking about burgers, this past Thursday night I was so hungry before bed I made 3 burgers on the BBQ at about 11:30 pm.  I’m sure my neighbours love me as the fumes were puffing up the balcony.  Hahaha!

I knew we had to do buffets in Vegas, so we got this baby!  It actually cost $55 + tax each, since we aren’t gamblingholics with Rewards Cards.  We could have signed up for one beforehand, but the lines were so long we just bit the bullet and spent the extra $10.  Feast your eyes on this!  I think we got ripped off.  It says $49.99 for Non-Reward Members.  We got charged $54.99.  Assheads.

Carnegie Deli – at The Mirage.  A deli sandwich is about $17-20 pending what you get.  I ordered the $20 Woody Allen.  I’ve ordered it before when I went to Vegas 4 years ago when a friend dared me to try it and finish it.  Like last time, I ate about the same amount…. HALF A SANDWICH.  It’s stupidly huge.  And they know it.  All over the menu, they have $2 or $3 “sharing fees” if you want to order one entree and split it.  Every other table asked for take home containers for leftovers.  We shouldn’t have ordered the fries.  I tried to polish off the leftovers before the UFC fight.  Couldn’t do it.

After UFC, we bought a whole pizza from Pizza Joint in The Flamingo.  Thin crust.  Good cheese.  Rest was shit.  Not worth $15.

Carnival Buffet – at Rio.  Never done this buffet before though I’ve been to Vegas 5 times before.  Rio is off the strip and you have to take a taxi or free shuttle bus over.  We shuttled over after waiting at a grubby bus stop at Bally’s.  I’ve always heard this buffet is among the best and they are right.  Best buffet I’ve had.  HUGE buffet with tons of variety.  Good hot food.  Tip for cheap asses:  you can buy discount buffet passes at ticket kiosks sprinkled on the strip for $15-20 instead of regular prices of $25-30.

Spice Market Buffet – at Planet Hollywood.  I’ve eaten here a few times.  We did it for lunch and was unimpressed.  Ok I guess, but the key feature is the small Middle Eastern food station.  The tandoori kabobs were so dry you could use it for kindling.  Bad experience right?  Well, not really!  The entire cast of Miss USA was eating there too.  They left shortly after, but I got a snapshot with one as they walked out.  Hot.  Miss New Mexico!  Every girl I saw was a minimum 7/10, with most being 8s and 9s.

Le Village Buffet – at Paris.  Among the worst buffets I’ve had.  When we chatted with a clerk at a ticket kiosk when we were scoping out comedy shows, we told her we were going to try Paris’ buffet.  She said it’s not that great.  Should have listened to her.  Back of my mind I thought she had a hidden agenda trying to sway us to a different place.  Our mistake.  But Paris was on the feast buffet pass, so there’s only so many places we could go to.  The food was just bland.  If you like seafood, they had 3-4 trays of sole and salmon, but the rest is trash compared to any buffet above.  There were so many trays and baskets of bread, potatoes and boring carbs it’s like I was at a grocery store’s bakery section.  I’d take Spice Market’s bone dry kabobs over 90% of Paris’ buffet.  Only good thing was the dessert station which looks like a small house.  Awesome custard cones and creme brulee.

Weight Loss Trick?

The last few days I’ve been eating a smoothy consisting of frozen strawberries and yogurt.  For filler, I eat a piece of naan (it’s like a pita).  The naan is super filling.  I still got some of each left, so I’m going to milk this till supplies runs out.

Workout 1 & 2 (weights and high school track)

Did some standard dumbbells and hit the track.  Yesterday, I did the most at the track since taking it up.  6 laps worth.  4 laps of running and 2 laps of walking.  Took about 16 minutes.  Pretty pathetic since I remember running 5 1/2 – 6 laps in high school in 12 minute runs.  But hey, that was decades ago!  I chunked up and work in an office now!
